Operation Recommendations

Everything you need to keep your WinGD engine operating at its peak

WinGD’s engines are designed to be simple to operate and maintain. Resources in this section support the safe, efficient running of engines on a day-to-day basis and provide guidance on operator maintenance

Engine Maintenance

Strategic and planned maintenance is critical in reducing time between overhauls and keeping your vessel operational.

General Maintenance

All standard maintenance information regarding WinGD engines can be found within our operating manuals, maintenance manuals and spare parts catalogues. These resources aim to enable operators to adopt an effective preventative maintenance programme, minimising the chance of engine issues and extending the lifecycle of engines.

All WinGD engines come with Operation Manuals (OM),  Maintenance Manuals (MM) and Spare Part Catalogues and are supported by our Operations Support Team, our Engine Builders and our Global Service Partners

Regularly scheduled maintenance is vital to minimize maintenance costs and to ensure maximum TBO. Our OMs and MMs are your guide to effective preventative maintenance.

Preventive maintenance is a schedule of planned maintenance actions aimed at the prevention of breakdowns and failures. The primary goal of preventive maintenance is to prevent the failure of equipment before it actually occurs. It is designed to preserve and enhance equipment reliability by replacing worn components before they actually fail.

Preventive maintenance activities include equipment checks, partial or complete overhauls at specified periods and so on. In addition, workers can record equipment deterioration so they know to replace or repair worn parts before they cause system failure.

Recent technological advances in tools for inspection and diagnosis have enabled even more accurate and effective equipment maintenance. The ideal preventive maintenance program would prevent all equipment failure before it occurs.

Service Bulletins further support the operations and maintenance of WinGD engines and are provided based on the service experience of the engines in operations.

Condition Based Maintenance

Using our remote diagnostics and troubleshooting support platform WinGD Integrated Digital Expert – WiDE for short – operators can move towards condition-based maintenance, with maintenance routines based on advance detection of potential issues.

Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) allows ship operators to plan intelligent, preventative maintenance based on the actual condition of the engine.

All new WinGD engines, sold as of 2018, come equipped with our Data Collection Monitoring (DCM) unit. The DCM collects slow and fast signals from the main engine and other ship machinery.

When combined with our Engine Diagnostic System (EDS) software program, the digital twin of your engine, this data is analysed to create valuable information and insight to guide ship maintenance and reduce unplanned stoppages.

Together our DCM and EDS form WiDE, the WinGD Integrated Digital Expert - creating value from engine and ship data.

Fuels & Lubricants

Fuel, along with the engine tribology concept and the lubricants used, play a crucial role in the long-term reliable and efficient operation of any engine. WinGD has developed rigorous guidance for operators to help them identify the right fuels and lubricants for their specific engine type.
